Online and In-person Firestop Training

The Firestop University is an easy way to increase firestopping products and systems knowledge, plus help to improve your installation techniques. Our courses are designed to teach you the importance of firestopping to life safety and code compliance in modern construction. Our mission is to be the leading global provider of firestop training and continuing education. Our trainings are offered in three formats; attend a live training session, attend a live webinar, or learn at your own pace on-line. We even have courses that allow you to run your own training sessions as the resident expert.

Firestop 101

This course provides an in-depth look at firestopping, delving into its definition, regulatory requirements, and critical application areas. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the products used in penetration firestop systems, datacom firestop systems, and construction joint firestop systems to ensure fire safety in modern constructions.

Firestop Instructional Training - Level 1

This basic competency course is an in-service training and includes an exam. This course is excellent for designers, installers, code compliance officers and anyone seeking a basic understanding of firestopping. This course is non-proprietary to specific brands and will teach the UL System approach as well as product and system management.

What Architects Need to Know

This course offers insights into the significance of accurate firestop specification, highlighting key strategies to recognize and prevent common errors in the process. Learners will explore various resources and solutions aimed at streamlining the firestop specification process, ultimately reducing liability and enhancing efficiency in fire safety planning and implementation.

Firestopping Engineering Judgements

This course looks at the distinctive hurdles presented by Engineering Judgments (EJs) in firestopping, crucial for averting expensive alterations, project delays, and potential compromises in life safety regulations. Attendees will explore pertinent code provisions permitting the use of EJs, navigating the diverse interpretations and approval processes by various Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).

Firestopping for Modular Construction

This presentation covers code compliant design and contractor coordination for modular firestopping. It involves a “system approach” to mechanical, plumbing and electrical through penetrations as well as protecting construction joints and marriage points. Product installation recommendations and techniques for firestop devices (in-factory) and wet seals (on-site) will be highlighted.

Firestopping Key Points

This course covers life safety basics and code-compliant firestopping design; addressing coordination among trades, UL system approaches for various penetrations, joint construction, and curtain walls. Additionally, it explores how code requirements influence design.

Interior Finish Firestopping

This course covers the basics of Interior Finish and Joint system design for firestopping. It covers the different joint types, how they are tested and what to look for when choosing the correct UL system for each application, including movement capabilities and why this performance is tested.

This course covers the evolving landscape of mass timber materials like cross-laminated timber (CLT), mass plywood panels, and glulam beams and columns. Participants will explore the characteristics and applications of these materials, alongside an examination of their unique fire-related challenges and how building codes have adapted to enhance life safety.

Understanding ASTM E2307

This course provides an advanced overview the requirements of ASTM E2307 and the advancements in perimeter fire containment systems for today’s curtain wall systems. By understanding the unique challenges that ASTM E2307 present and how to select a safe solution in the design phase, you can eliminate costly changes, delays, and compromised life safety requirements prior to the start of construction.

Firestop S.O.P. for Healthcare

This course emphasizes the significance of establishing a Standard Operating Practice (SOP) for firestopping, and offers guidance on designing or improving one.
